Preview: Karlstads Rugbyklubb Vs Göteborg RK
Karlstad welcome Gothenburg to orrholmen for their first home game of the season.
After a loss two weeks ago to a strong Oslo side who had 12 experienced imports in the starting 15. It remains to be seen if Karlstad’s preseason efforts are going to pay off. What is for sure is Karlstad have a little more depth to the squad then last year. We welcome back a few quality players this week who will push for vital positions.
What can’t be denied from the videos we watched and those who were there on the day in Oslo was Karlstad’s total dominance at scrum time.
Our front row is coming together Bjorn realizing he isn’t the new kid on the block anymore, Henke getting fitter and managing to last more than the 40 minutes of last season and martins experience are a formidable trio. Behind them Tervell and ragge and with new addition berry adding flair and dynamism at flanker whilst Owen who had a superb game when he settled in Oslo brings that welsh grit to the flankers. Last but not least Andy Martin filling the No8 spot. One could comment there is a lot more to come from this pack and some teething problems from Oslo could be solved Saturday where our runs and breaks are more fluid and some better communication, not overlooking some real quality on the benches waiting to bite at their heals (I write this not knowing the starting lineup just basing it on those who started last game).
Our backs were a bit more uncertain the last day, but to be expected new half back pairings, new centers and new full back. Hard to expect it to all come together on the first outing. But we saw some real decent flashes, quality lines and some good hands, defense left a lot to be desired at times but again we can but improve.
But of course we still have to focus on the positives from last week we did cross the line 3 times without getting a try. We sure made oslo work hard for a victory
Probably most relevant from some online chat is Gothenburg like to trot the ball out and have a pretty decent sevens side so we can envisage their backs fancy getting their hands on the ball. But truth be told we don’t fully know how Gothenburg will line up, for all we know they have a 1.5 ton pack filled with beasts who have been eating bacon and cabbage for 12 months in preparation for the game. For that matter we really have no idea about Vänersborg either so this weekend will be good for an overview of how everyone is shaping up.
All we can hope for is some decent weather and tough, honest but nonetheless safe contest.
To Gothenburg, Karlstad welcomes you.
